WHOLE BOAT DESIGN ENGINEER
Salary £27,000 - £33,500   dependent upon experience and qualifications

The Whole Boat Design Engineer, within a small team of engineers, is responsible for the management and conduct of a range of technical tasks associated with platform wide design, safety, process and documentation issues on RN submarines.

The Submarine Support Management Group (SSMG) Platform Design department provides multi-disciplinary professional and technical support to the MoD submarine platform Design Authorities for all in-service Royal Navy submarines.

Within the department, the Whole Boat Design Engineer reports directly to the Whole Boat Team Leader and is responsible for tasks including the investigation and assessment of design, safety, process and documentation issues across the whole platform.

The post offers the opportunity to develop project and man management skills working on technical tasks within a multi-disciplined department.

Tasks include the production and review of technical reports and specifications, sub-contractor management and customer liaison. This may include the supervision of junior staff and developing task opportunities with the customer.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
The applicant will be Degree qualified in a relevant engineering based discipline or HND/HNC qualified with relevant experience. They will preferably have a background in mechanical design / design management. Experience of MoD working practices or familiarity with submarine design, operation and support would be of benefit.
