Salary £23,000 - £28,500   dependent upon experience and qualifications

A vacancy exists within the SSMG Platform Mechanical Team for a Design Support Engineer.

The Design Support Engineer is responsible for undertaking tasks within a small team of engineers on work-streams associated with mechanical systems on RN submarines.

The Submarine Support Management Group (SSMG) Platform Design department provides multi-disciplinary professional and technical support to the MoD submarine platform Design Authorities for all in-service Royal Navy submarines. Within the department, the Design Support Engineer reports to the Mechanical Team Leader and is responsible for undertaking activities associated with the investigation and assessment of design, safety, process and documentation issues across the whole platform.

The role of the Design Support Engineer includes support to task owners in the production of technical reports, in the management Mechanical Design Authority Issues and in the administration of equipment working group meetings including attendance, the production of meeting minutes and the timely issue of these minutes.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
The applicant will be a minimum of ONC qualified or equivalent qualification with apprenticeship or have equivalent experience. Experience of MoD working practices, familiarity with submarine design, operation or support would be of benefit but is not mandatory.
