
DEFECTS INVESTIGATION ENGINEER Band 4 - Keynsham
Salary £26,375 - £35,500 dependent upon experience and qualifications
The Defects Investigation Engineer, working within a small team of engineers, will be responsible for the day to day management and provision of engineering support to the Submarine Design Authority, for the marine and weapons engineering defects reply service for ME and WE S2022(S) raised on RN submarines.
The position is funded under Core Product divided between the Combat and Platform Departments, dealing with WE and ME S2022s respectively.
The Defects Investigation Engineer reports to the Whole Boat Team Leader within the Platform Department and is responsible for undertaking activities associated with the production and day to day management of replies to defect investigations, to the required standard(s), time scales and budget. This involves the analysis of technical, logistic or operational issues raised by Fleet via Defect Reports (S2022(S)) and requires a broad range of understanding of engineering issues across the range of marine engineering specialisations and technical areas.
The successful applicant will possess the ability to conduct technical investigations and assessments to an agreed time and cost budget, working flexibly and under minimal day-to-day supervision. They will be required to interface with MoD clients and industry and should be able to communicate effectively at an appropriate level.
The applicant will be HND/HNC qualified in a relevant discipline and some relevant experience, or OND/ONC qualified with significant relevant experience. Experience of MoD working practices, familiarity with submarine design, operation or support would be of benefit.
