About SSMG
The Submarine Support Management Group (SSMG) was formed in 1998 to provide Design Authority In-Service Support (DAISS) to Vanguard, Swiftsure and Trafalgar Class submarines. The group primarily provides a wide range of services to the Director In-Service Submarines (DISM) under the title Submarine In-Service Support Project. In addition, the group supports other parts of the UK MOD as well as Commercial Defence Contractors.
Babcock Marine, acting as Prime Contractor, is supported by BMT and SEA as subcontractors and full risk sharing partners. The teaming arrangement brings together the complementary strengths of submarine support skills, including all activities associated with the refit programme of Babcock Marine, with the design skills and combat system experience of BMT and SEA.
Babcock Marine, as the owners and operators of Devonport Royal Dockyard, has a long track record in refitting and upgrading nuclear submarines and in recent years has taken a significant role in technical and Prime Contract management.
BMT has a reputation for innovative thinking and has extensive experience in designing and supporting some of the most technically complex warships, submarines and fleet auxiliaries.
SEA has a well established reputation for providing independent technical and project management support, with particular emphasis on high grade combat systems design.
The majority of SSMG personnel are employed in Keynsham, which is conveniently located to provide easy access to its main customer at Foxhill in Bath and Abbey Wood in Bristol. In addition there are satellite offices in Faslane and Devonport, which provide support at the waterfront.
